The Essential History

Marblehead has been established for over thirty years. In 1978 Ricky Agnew, saw a gap in the market for American beer and imported Schlitz.  Schlitz was an instant success in the on trade market, defining and leading the emergent PPL category.

In 1991, Marblehead launched two brands that were relatively unknown in the UK market, Absolut Vodka and Sapporo Beer.  In the three years that Marblehead distributed Absolut its sales doubled year on year.  Next came Makers Mark Bourbon, the first small batch Bourbon in the UK. In 1995 Marblehead launched the highly successful Polish vodka, Wodka Wyborowa, and established it as a leading brand in the ‘premium vodka’ sector.  Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka quickly followed, & is now the leading flavoured vodka brand in the UK.

2008 Marblehead are launching into international brand development with the launch of Zephyr Gin.

How Marblehead Works

It seems simple to say that we concentrate our initial brand building efforts in the on-trade, building a brand through the enthusiasm of bartenders and supporting their efforts to educate their customers.  However, simple is often most effective and, when combined with highly effective PR and a sales force very knowledgeable about the sector the product sits in, you have a recipe for repeated success.  Of course, sourcing brands with quality, integrity, honesty and a story to tell is also an important part of the mix.

This approach, pioneered by Marblehead, has now become an ‘industry norm’ but we remain at the cutting edge of brand building in the premium sprits category throughout the UK.”
